I Need A Dollar - Aloe Blacc
The amazing theme song from the new hit HBO series, How To Make It In America. HBO always knows how to pick the perfect songs for the title sequences of their original shows. They always pick that song that perfectly represents the show in every aspect. A perfect song from nu-soul artist, Aloe Blacc. This song is not overly produced like much music is nowadays, this song instead has this classic feel with it’s retro sound and simple piano sample. With the recession hitting us for the past two years times are rough nowadays and we all need that pay, we all need those dollars. How To Make It In America is one of those shows that hits every stride of contemporary American life. Featuring the talent of rapper Kid Cudi and veteran Puerto Rican actor, Luis Guzman, the show is a poor man’s New York City version of Entourage. While HBO’s other massively hit series, Entourage, is about 20-somethings enjoying wealth and fame in Hollywood while partying up in the Los Angeles nightlife, How To Make It In America is about older 20-somethings trying to make it big in the biggest city of the world, New York City, while enjoying all the perks of the NYC nightlife. This show resonates a whole lot with me, being a young 20-something in this massive city, I know how tough it can be to make it this city but I also know all the wonderful opportunities available in this city. The entire first season of this show had me enthralled from start to finish, I watched all eight episodes of the first season in two sittings. It filled me with excitement and hype all the way through. The story was pitch perfect with it’s honest portrayal of modern-day life in NYC (of course it had certain exaggerations). I loved seeing the fashion and the parties shown in this show, it makes me excited to experience the rest of my twenties in this wonderful city. You don’t need to be wealthy or ridiculously famous to enjoy the New York City high-life, that’s the amazing part of this city you walk around and you meet so many interesting people and get so many connections. The entire city is organic, filled with life, excitement, and opportunity. If you haven’t watched How To Make It In America yet, go watch it NOW!

Cause everything around me is crumbling down
And all I want is for someone to help me”

I agree completely. The theme song is a perfect fit. It caught my attention from the first episode. It’s almost like something that has been heard before,or maybe it’s just that it has that feeling of some of the 70s sitcoms. It was a great choice.
