While I was listening to this song a question popped in my mind. What if everybody hiding under anonymity around the world were all of a suddenly revealed? Their identities all revealed to everyone, every secret comes out from one instant to another for all the world to see. The title of this famous Brand New song sparked this question in my head, we all do quiet things that no one ever knows about, what will happen if it all gets revealed? What would happen to society? Will a massive revelation of the truth benefit us or harm us? Let’s face it we live in the internet age, we have limitless access to this virtual realm where we can hide behind anonymity, a proverbial mask to hide our identities so we can express our true selves without any repercussions. With services like Tumblr, formspring.me, blogs, forums, and email, anyone can hide under anonymity and reveal their deepest darkest secrets to virtually anybody. We can reveal our love, hate, or our unbiased opinion about anyone. We can reveal our true desires, wants, and needs. But of course it’s all under the wonderful protection of anonymity. What if one day that amazing luxury we all enjoy from time to time is gone?

Romance is an adventure. Every single second spent being romantically involved with someone is a new frontier that brings new promise. Sometimes I think of that one girl I care oh so very much for and find myself wanting to ask her to take my hand so I can show her the stars. I want her to hold my hand as I take her to places she has never been to. I want to show her new beautiful sights more beautiful than all of the world’s painted masterpieces. I want to show her new experiences that will spice up her life. A hauntingly beautiful song by one of the best rock bands out there, Brand New. This is a prayer of sorts asking for this feeling of loneliness to wither away. A song of reflection about past mistakes that we all regret to have made. We all shiver at thought of living forever in loneliness, to be alone in this world is the worst kind of suffering. To be eternally alone is worse than death itself. At many points at our lives we wonder whether we are going to be alone, it’s a real fear within us all whether you want to admit it or not. Nobody wants to live alone without someone by your side who truly loves you. Besides friends and family we all long for that everlasting romantic relationship with a loved one. We all want that one special person to be at our side, holding our hand and willing to endure anything to be with us. It’s that feeling of hopelessness when we don’t find that special someone that really gets to us. Sometimes I wonder to myself, will I be alone forever? Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don’t - Brand New
I can’t believe I never heard of Brand New for such a long time, all throughout high school and so on. I only first heard of Brand New a year ago and really started listening to them about two months ago where I listened to their recently released album Daisy. Since I was impressed by that album I decided to give a listen to their past albums. So I listened to their album from 2003, Deja Entendu, and my mind was blown! This is some excellent rock music. It’s intense and the lyrics are filled with tons of emotion and feeling. This is my favorite song from the album, it has an excellent intro slowly building up to the epic ending. The song is about love and losing that love. How one gets so caught-up on the flaws and mistakes your partner has done. Brand New has a point, sometimes we concentrate on only the negative aspects of a person and simply ignore all of the positive ones. It’s taking someone for granted, the expectation of perfection and the realization that they aren’t perfect. That’s what can lead us to be lonely in life without someone to be at our side. As the song says “We’re concentrating on falling apart. We were contenders, we’re throwing the fight, but I just wanna believe” We concentrate too much on falling apart, we concentrate on only the negative, and we give up too easily. But we just have to believe, believe that the best can happen, believe that everything is going to be perfectly fine, to just believe in someone else. This is not a typical emo song whining about all that crappy things that happens, this is a cautionary tale throwing some wisdom and truth to your ears. Brand New gets it, they know what they are talking about and they make wonderful music along with it.

Long Island, NY based band Brand New had matured throughout the years, their music has slowly changed as the years past by. With their brand new album titled Daisy, they abandon that punk emo sound and go for a more heavier rock sound. I have to say this album is amazing. It’s heavy, amazing guitar riffs, a strong bass-line and memorable vocals. For the past year or so I’ve been mainly listening to indie, alternative, and electronic, but it’s an amazing change of pace to listen to good ‘ole rock again. Now that I have listened to this song and the rest of the album, I realized that I miss the screaming, the crazy guitar distortions, and the kick-ass heavy drums. Rock is something I ignore for far too much in the past year, I want to get back into it.
