We look around and advertisements, films, television shows, fashion, art, and everything else has borrowed elements from something made before it. Some might say it’s a lack of originality, our inability for new ideas. I say it’s our evolution, we build upon works of art that were already magnificent and we still make them better. We live in a world where nothing is truly original, how could it be with already several millennia of art already created. However, it really doesn’t matter whether something is original, what is important is its authenticity and whether whatever you created contains and conveys a true meaning to you.

Most kids when they grew up wanting to be rockstars. They would blast rock music like Red Hot Chili Peppers or Nirvana and play the air-guitar or air-drums pretending to do a kick-ass solo as if they were headlining Madison Square Garden in New York City. I was one of the weird kids who didn’t do that. Instead I would blast Daft Punk to maximum volume and air-DJ, pretending I was spinning the turntables, cross-fading between different beats, and bob my head as if I were wearing headphones on only one ear.
Ever had that moment of realization where everything is suddenly clear? That feeling of finally obtaining true clarity and becoming unhinged by the shackles of confusion and disarray? That breakthrough you have been waiting for where everything starts to connect and make sense? Well this song captures that exact moment. Daft Punk’s score for Tron: Legacy is genius, I have listen to it for hours on end. It has helped me through long study sessions and has soothed my mind in times where I just needed to think.

When Daft Punk’s score for Tron: Legacy subtlety started in the background of the striking visuals, my body was covered in goosebumps. This score is a lovechild of Hans Zimmer’s The Dark Knight score and 80’s synth music. Slow in it’s build up, the bass is felt strongly in the chest as the suspense rises to an unforgettable climax. During the entire film I was mesmerized by the score that accompanied the breathtaking visuals perfectly, evoking a true cinematic feel with cyberpunk sensibilities. Sure, Tron: Legacy’s story is lackluster, lacking any depth or intrigue, and causing tons of confusion for most of the duration of the film. But, despite the mediocre story that was clearly written to appease the attention span of twelve year-old boys across the world, I couldn’t help but marvel at the sheer beauty that was presented to me. I reverted back to my twelve year-old self and sat in awe of one of the most imaginative visuals I’ve ever seen and relished in heart-pounding music that accompanied it. I’m now excited to hear Daft Punk’s next score, this soundtrack definitely shows they have the potential to join the greats of film composers.

This is probably the only electronic song you will hear with an epic guitar solo. That’s what makes this the best Daft Punk remix ever made, the smooth technological rhythms of the electronic guitar seep into my soul, take me by surprise and show me the true magic of modern music. Like the song says, this music makes me feel so free.
