Trembling Hands - The Temper Trap

Since the first instant my mind was blown away when I heard Sweet Disposition in the 500 Days of Summer trailer, which is one of the best trailers ever made by the way, I knew that The Temper Trap will have a place in my heart and iPod until the day I die. Every one has that one band that means the world to them and when you listen to any song from that one band it makes your heart flutter with joy. For our parents that band might be The Beatles or Simon & Garfunkel, for our older siblings it might be Nirvana or Michael Jackson, and for our grandparents it might be Frank Sinatra or Louis Armstrong. There are countless amount of bands that are profoundly meaningful to countless people. That one band for me is The Temper Trap. I feel as though every song has been written specifically for me. I can relate to every lyric and I’m moved by every note. I listen to them in times of great sorrow and in times of overwhelming happiness. It doesn’t matter when I listen to The Temper Trap I’m immediately catapulted into an intense euphoria, which no drug can dare compare. When I saw them live, two long years ago, my heart stopped because I knew the experience I was going through is one of those rare magical moments that will be forever imprinted in my memory.

Now, after almost three years of fawning on a daily basis to The Temper Trap, a new album is released. Every facet of this self-titled album is magic. Seriously, you are listening to music that will stand the test of time.

Our story is quite the opposite, it’s actually a light-hearted Shakespearean comedy, which from the beginning to end, no matter what happens, it is the funnest and most profound time of our lives.

The sun was creaking through the window after an entire morning of love making. Our faces glowing with the after-effects of ecstasy.

She hastily sat up with a sudden urge to ask me something. Her fingers intertwined with mine and I looked upon her beautiful brown eyes expectantly. She asked “How much do you love me?”

I slowly gazed upon her divinely shaped body and her heavenly face. “How much do I love you? If I count the freckles throughout your body, that would be how much I love you.”

And so I counted for twenty minutes and the number was exactly a hundred and forty-two.

I kissed her on the forehead and tenderly whispered “A hundred and forty-two, that is how much I love you.”

On a spring morning we ventured far away from our urban lives with only three things; a bottle of bourbon, silky bed sheets for love making, and hand-rolled tobacco. We found the perfect spot with the snow-covered mountains in the distance and a small stream trickling down nearby. The smell of smokey bourbon fresh from Kentucky filled the air as we drank from handmade jars and smoked our tobacco. I traced the outline of her soft lips as I sang a sweet song.

She asked me “Where is that song from?”

“My grandmother taught me this song and she told to me to sing it whenever happiness consumed my heart.” I responded as my fingers made little circles on the crook of her neck and breathtakingly feminine collarbones.

She was flustered and I couldn’t help but smile because it was the most adorable thing I have ever seen. I took my hands, rugged by years of exploring the outdoors, placed it by the small of her back and pulled her in tightly. I gently move the hair on her face, gazed deeply into her captivating eyes, and placed my lips upon hers.

“I can taste the joy on your lips” She whispered as her hands laid upon my hairy chest.

I tilted my lips towards her tiny ears and as she felt my breath I whispered “I can fell the tremble in your knee.”

And then we made passionate love as night fell throughout the sky. Feeling our heartbeats in synchronicity as I stirred a storm inside her pulsating affections.

Then we laid naked as the fireflies lit up the air surrounding us. A cold spring night breeze blew by. She shivered. I wrapped my arms around he until we were entirely intertwined and I tenderly whispered “If I could crawl inside your heart and light up a fire, would you let me?”

Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye

Take a soft-spoken Australian, a soulful indie songstress, and lyrics about a dreadful breakup and we end up with one of the most beautifully addicting songs of this year. I’m hearing this everywhere I go and it’s not helping because I cannot get this song out of my head! Fact is breakups suck and this song is a tender account of how much they suck. When someone you love starts becoming a stranger to you. Everything that you loved about them you now hate. When their touch becomes strange and foreign to you rather than endearing and affectionate. When you are completely confused by what you might have done wrong. When you just want to erase that person from your memory forever because you cannot bear the thought of them. It’s really fucking hard to fall out of love’s grasp and dwell in the sadness of heartbreak. However, somehow this song speaks the truth in ways that cannot be done in any other way. There are moments where we will stoop so low we won’t recognize even ourselves! But that is a reality we all face, and this song shoves it in our faces in the form of a delightful and mesmerizing song.
