I have lived lifetimes. I have been to the darkest corners of the earth where I have seen true suffering that has torn my heart apart. I have seen sights so beautiful that most men would die to see. However, in the short time I have known you, nothing that I have been through compares to all the emotions I feel with you. Even though you are miles away, I still feel as though you are right by my side. I feel as though you were holding my hand and smiling right back at me. You are always with me; in the day, when we talk for hours about how we are going to live the rest of our lives together and in the night, when I constantly dream about you. Downton Abbey (Suite) - John Lunn

In a sea of dreadful sitcoms, trashy reality shows, and tired crime procedurals one television series sticks out as the beacon of hope. It’s not an epic science-fiction show wrapped in mystery nor an explosive actioner involving nuclear bombs, no this is a soap opera about British royalty and their servants. The one defining factor is that where it lacks in fantastical intrigue and action it makes up for by being brilliantly written. Downton Abbey is elegantly layered and every character is brought to life by the most excellent writing I’ve experienced in a while. This is a soap opera written by a great poet. It’s rare to see poetry on television but this is the masterpiece of dramatic television we have all been waiting for.

La Valse D’Amelie (Orchestral Version) - Yann Tiersen

If I saw Yann Tiersen walking around I would go up to him and hug him. The man’s music has changed my life. Through his beautiful score of Amelie he showed me a world entrenched in peculiarities, tiny nuances that make everyone special in a wonderful ways. There hasn’t been any other score that has moved me and transformed me as much as Amelie has. It has reached out to me in times of despair and has enriched times of joy. I could be in any mood, in any place, at any time, with anyone else, and it will always touch my heart in unspeakable ways.

Christmas is a time where innocence is reborn into our hearts. A time of wonderment where your inner child is awakened once again. Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone’s score, masterfully composed by John Williams, captures that whimsical nature of Christmas. I will forever whistle this tune on cold Christmas Eve evenings while my family and I sip nutella-infused hot chocolate and gather around the warm fireplace. Happy Christmas everyone!

What if you woke up one day and realized that your entire life is a farce? That everything you have been doing from the day you have been born was wrong? That you have been on the wrong side of everything you were meant for? That you have been veering away from your destiny and now you are so far from it you can never go back? What if everything you are is a lie? An entire lie you have lived. What if one day the real you finally wakes up?

This song, originally by master lyricist Bob Dylan, blows all other covers away. This is true musical innovation. Bear McCreary took an already perfect song and made it even more mind-blowing.

Imagine having the power to go anywhere and do anything you want, to travel throughout the stars and even backward and forwards through time on a whim. Of course we can’t do such things in real life, but thanks to Doctor Who we can escape our reality and take part in adventures that test the limits of our wildest imaginations. For a hours worth of television you can drop all rationality and let wonder take over. This universe of timelords, murderous evil robots, and time-traveling phone booths is not constrained to the rules of our reality, it’s a universe where anything can happen, there is no limit to the possibilities of mind-boggling and heart-racing adventure that can take place.
